PHE Department has been deeply involved in arranging public utility facilities during Ganga Sagar Mela held every year in the month of January.

Starting from arranging water supply and sanitation facilities in Outram Ghat in Kolkata, the responsibility of PHE Department spreads on enroute points like Lot 8, Koachuberia,

Namkhana and Kakdwip apart from the Sagar Island proper. PHE Department has to construct temporary shelter for the Government Officials and Personnel on duty at the aforesaid points of public congregation. Supported by the South 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad and District Administration, it has been possible for the Public Health Engineering Department to arrange such facilities for congregation of more than 5 Lakh people every year.
