INTRODUCING CCDU

THE State Level Communication & capacity Development Unit (CCDU) under Public Health engineering Department has been created in the G.O. No. PHE/Estt/3128/2E-97/2004 dated 10.11.2004. It has been functioning initially since 24.12.2004 from PHE Dte. H.Q. under the Executive Director and eventually from its separate office at Bikash Bhaban since 24.01.2005.

CCDU has been making endeavours to promote reform initiatives by providing HRD & IEC support to the State Water and sanitation Mission (SWSM) and district with regard to Swajaldhara since modified, Water Quality Monitoring, Surveillance and Improvement Programme & Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) as well as we as documentation & advocacy with sharing of successful IEC & HRD initiatives taken up within West Bengal and other states.

HRD activities include capacity building of the functionaries at all levels, both organizational and technical.

IEC activities include awareness generation amongst the beneficiaries.

CCDU seeks the involvement of Panchayat and toehr institutions / bodies NGOs, societies & associations as recommended by the Zilla Parishads.

CCDU believes in “catch-em-young” by way of involving school children and also make them aware about the different water contaminating elements like arsenic, fluoride, iron, etc.

OBJECTIVES OF CCDU

To organize group discussions, seminars, meetings etc. highlighting the facilities and opportunities made available to the           people

To share the key concept from supply driven approach to demand driven approach.

To ensure people’s participation vis-à-vis assure community ownership.

To develop quality of the users about over all Health & Hygiene resulting in the environment friendly Nation.

To provide affordable innovative technical option.

To enlighten the users about “Water Quality Monitoring; Surveillance and Improvement program

To encourage active participation of women.

To promote the concept of rain water harvesting and water conservation and application.
