New Town Kolkata

 

Government of West Bengal decided to set up a township adjoining the city of Kolkata in the name of ‘New Town Kolkata’. The project area of the township is contained presently in Rajarhat Police Station area of North 24 Parganas district and Bhangar Police Station area of South 24 Parganas district. Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) is acting as the Nodal Agency for funding and coordinating planning and implementation of various infrastructure projects within the proposed township. PHE Department is entrusted with the major infrastructural development work like Water Supply, Sewerage, Storm Drainage and Solid Waste Management.

PHE Department has taken up execution of Water Supply and Sewerage in Action Area I( comprising of an area of about 640.34 Ha out of the total project area of 3077 Ha ) after designing the system. Estimated Cost of above work so far taken up in Action Area I is about Rs.53.64 Crores. A Surface Water Supply Scheme with raw water drawn from the river Hooghly near Cossipore will be implemented for supplying drinking water to New Town. Three Rural Piped Water Supply Schemes have also been taken up for execution as a part of Neighbour hood Development Plan for New Town.
