A comprehensive
water supply, sanitation and health education
project for Bolpur and its adjoining areas of
Birbhum district and Raghunathpur and its adjoining
areas in Purulia district with financial participation
of the Government of Federal Republic of Germany
and the State Government was taken up at an estimated
cost of Rs.149 Crores. |

In Bolpur area (non
piped water supply zones) installation of 909
handpump fitted tubewells has been completed and
handed over to the concerned Panchayet Samity
for operation and maintenance. The piped water
scheme for the area is based on big diameter tubewells,
has also been completed. The piped system has
been inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister on
31.3.2002. The Piped Water Supply Scheme is of
4.50 MGD capacity and will benefit a projected
population of 3.16 Lakh in 2011 AD. |

Implementation of the scheme for Raghunathpur area
has also been completed and has been inaugurated
by Shri Jyoti Basu, Hon’ble ex-Chief Minister
on 7.4.2002. This surface water based scheme is
of 2 MGD capacity and will benefit a projected
population of 1.48 Lakh in 2011 AD.
Agreed completion date for the
project was 30.12.2002 and physical implementation
of hardware delivery for both the schemes have
been completed ahead of schedule
